  • Bio - Sara is originally from Middle Tennessee. After a short stint in Memphis, where she earned a degree in Biology and began a career as both a Zoo Educator and a Sleep Technician, she then followed a dream to work for a large zoo in Orlando, FL as an Educator. Once she and her husband started their family, they moved back to Middle Tennessee where they currently reside. Sara and her husband now enjoy a full life with their three beautiful and very active children. She enjoys many creative outlets – singing, piano, drawing, drama, and organizing anything. And even though she has enjoyed her career as a Zoo Educator, Sara's great love of the written word continued to draw her to write. She has always been an avid reader and, for many years, has been what she terms a “closet writer”. Her travels and love of history have served to inspire her to write clean Historical Romance. Sara has made several trips to the Czech Republic. Her time among the Czech people and the landscapes of the country inspired her and greatly influenced her work on her debut novel, The Lady Bornekova, set in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. Sara is also the author of The General’s Wife, Off to War, and Hope in Cripple Creek and a member of ACFW.

  • Tell us a little about your novel.
    • During the last great gold rush in Colorado (in the 1890s), a schoolteacher is caught between marrying the many who may have caused her best friend’s death in order to save two orphaned children. What is a girl to do? She feels a particular responsibility for these children because of a connection with their mother. This is her story amidst a town going haywire because of the true historical events of the fall out of this gold rush.
  • So it's Historical Fiction?
    • Yes, but there is definitely a romance in the book that drives the story.
  • Care to share the more historically significant events behind your story?
    • A lot of what goes on with the miners in the story is true to history. Katherine, my main character, has a brother that is a miner who gets caught up in these events. There is a strike and a serious conflict between the factions involved in the strike.
  • What was your inspiration for Hope in Cripple Creek?
    • I had the set up for the love triangle in mind. I wanted to place the story in Colorado. My husband had visited Cripple Creek and we began researching the history. This amazing story of this strike fell into my lap.
  • Did you always want to be a writer? If not, what did you want to be when you were a child?
    • I've always been a strong writer as far as essays and whatnot. And I've always written short stories and fan fiction, but when I was a child, I wanted to be a doctor, a vet…or an actress. I know, I know…those are very similar goals.
  • Do you have any current projects your working on? Care to share?
    • I am in editing mode right now. Editing the novel I just finished and working on incorporating beta reader feedback into The Lady Bornekova’s sequel. I’m always working on more than one thing at a time.

Excerpt:

“Katie!” Someone shook her, rubbing her face. “Katie!”
Her eyes opened. There was no tunnel, no Ellie Mae. Katherine was in the hotel room in Denver with Wyatt. He leaned over her, hands on her arms, shaking her awake. Ellie was dead and had been for many years. Katherine lay covered in a layer of sweat as tears flowed down her face.
“Katie, are you all right?” Wyatt asked, his voice now gentle as he pushed her hair out of her face. He sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her into his embrace. “That must have been some nightmare. But you’re safe.”
Katherine did feel safe in his arms, but the memory of what happened to Ellie was fresh in her mind, in her heart, and she couldn’t let herself remain in Wyatt Sullivan’s embrace. She pushed at him to create some distance between them.
She smacked at her face, wiping the tears away. “I’m fine,” she lied.
His eyes darkened. Who cared if he didn’t believe her?
But she would have none of his comforting. The wound was fresh. He had left Ellie Mae behind.
